Ranginui & Papatūānuku Māori Creation Story Canvas | New Zealand Wall Art
A dramatic celebration of the connection between sky and earth.
Inspired by the Māori creation story of Ranginui, the Sky Father, and Papatūānuku, the Earth Mother, this richly detailed canvas brings one of Aotearoa New Zealand's best-known creation traditions to life through a contemporary artistic interpretation.
Ranginui emerges from a deep celestial sky filled with stars and clouds, while Papatūānuku becomes part of the living landscape below — mountains, forests, waterfalls and ocean flowing around her.
At the centre, their noses gently meet, representing the enduring bond between Ranginui and Papatūānuku — sky and earth.
Deep blues, lush greens and warm golden light make this a particularly striking statement canvas.

The Story
In Māori tradition, Ranginui and Papatūānuku were joined together in a close embrace, with their children living in darkness between them.
Their children eventually sought to separate their parents and bring light into the world. Tāne pushed Ranginui upwards to become the sky, while Papatūānuku remained below as the earth.
Though separated, sky and earth remain forever connected.
